When ordering firewood, the advertised product price is only part of the total expense. Understanding firewood delivery cost can help you compare suppliers and avoid unexpected charges.
Delivery fees differ between Canadian regions and businesses. The final price may depend on the distance travelled, the quantity ordered, the delivery vehicle, and whether additional services are required.
What Affects Firewood Delivery Cost?
Distance from the supplier
A supplier serving your immediate area may charge less for transportation than one travelling a long distance. Rural properties and remote locations may have additional access or distance charges.
Order quantity
Some suppliers have minimum delivery requirements. Others may offer different rates for small orders and bulk deliveries.
Wood type and preparation
Kiln-dried, seasoned, split, or specially packaged firewood may have different product prices. Ask whether preparation costs are already included.
Unloading and stacking
Delivery might mean dropping the load at a designated location, while stacking could cost extra. Clarify exactly what the service includes.
How to Compare Delivery Quotes
Request a complete price that includes the firewood, delivery, taxes, unloading, and optional stacking. Make sure every supplier is quoting the same quantity and a comparable wood type.
For bulk orders, ask for the quantity in a recognized measurement such as cords or stacked cubic metres. Avoid comparing an unspecified truckload with a measured cord. firewood delivery cost
Can You Reduce Delivery Costs?
Consider ordering a suitable quantity in one delivery if you have sufficient storage. Ask whether the supplier offers a minimum-order threshold or scheduled delivery route that could reduce the charge.
However, do not buy more wood than you can safely store simply to qualify for a discount.
